Description

The second Japan tour was realized at the end of the 6-member era. The original master vacuum-packed from the scene is now available. This work includes the “January 23, 1980: Aichi Prefectural Labor Hall” performance. This is a special audience recording. First of all, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule of coming to Japan at that time. ・January 21st + 22nd: Osaka Festival Hall (2 performances) ・January 23rd: Aichi Prefectural Labor Hall [this work] ・January 25th-27th: Nippon Budokan (3 performances) ・January 29th: Fukuoka City Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium, 7 performances in total. It was a large-scale tour that was the largest in their history of visiting Japan, and the Nagoya performance of this work was a concert that was in the middle of it. This work, which contains such a show, should be a truly wonderful audience recording… I suddenly wrote this without any help, but the fact is that it’s the audience. Recently, our store has discovered original recordings of Nagoya performances, and this work is one of them. It has been made into a CD directly from the original master given by the recording artist, and there is no doubt that it is an audience recording. However, what came out of such a master was a clear and beautiful sound that was far removed from customer records. Although the clapping at the scene is realistic, that’s about it for the audience record. The detailed and vivid performance sound comes right in front of your eyes and is neatly separated. The vocals and chorus stand out clearly, without any sense of distance. The feel is almost like an FM broadcast. It even picks up the on-site howling and the noise made by the PA in the silent section, just like an air check of a live broadcast. It’s a sound that makes you wonder for a moment, “Was there a radio broadcast in this year?” And since it is 1980, such quality is especially nice. After all, at this time it was a large household of six people. You can hear the thick ensemble including Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood in detail. At the first visit to Japan in 1978, the important on-site PA was the worst and the six-person performance was ruined, but in 1980 there was no problem. You can taste the delicious taste unique to the early stages beautifully and directly. You can especially feel this in the middle of “Starrider.” As the song breaks with a weeping guitar solo, the flute, organ, and synth solos connect one after the other, before returning to a dynamic guitar solo. That delicate yet dramatic thing… Especially in the flute solo, phrases reminiscent of KING CRIMSON’s “I Talk To The Wind” overflow, and scenes of a palace that were only a dream come to mind at the time. Of course, even though each person is solo, there is solid backing as part of the song, and there are phrases that challenge the main melody. And, to conclude such a big drama, Lou Gramm, who was 29 years old at the time, sings at an unstoppable pace… The sound of this work allows you to enjoy such an ensemble in detail. It suddenly became a detailed story, but the whole show drawn with such a sound is wonderful. In addition to the big hit songs and representative songs from the initial trilogy, there are also plenty of numbers unique to that time. FOREIGNER includes “The Damage Is Done,” “Fool For You Anyway,” and “Headknocker,” while HEAD GAMES includes “The Modern Day,” “Women,” and “Love On The Telephone.” Both the hit songs and the ensemble are truly a live album that sums up the six-person era in one show. A diverse and rich dramatic show filled with beautiful melodies and hit songs. This is a masterpiece of a live album that depicts such a performance in Japan with the vivid sound of an FM broadcast. FOREIGNER was not just a pop band, it was a 6-member era that was different from the 4-member era that followed.
