Description
From Eric Clapton’s “Behind the Sun American Tour” held in the spring of 1985, we will deliver a professional shot video of the Hartford, Connecticut performance on May 1st, which was once officially released! In fact, this work was first released on VHS cassette and laser disc in 1985, but it was never reissued and went out of print immediately, and for some reason it has not been made into a DVD or Blu-ray disc to this day. Nowadays, the hardware from that time has disappeared, making it difficult to watch it easily. This video clearly captures Eric Clapton in 1985, when he overcame alcoholism and made what could be described as his “second comeback” with his fearless looks and vitality-filled performance, and fans at the time were stunned by this “cool” Clapton. However, it is currently impossible to confirm this. I don’t know why it hasn’t been made into a DVD, but in order for many fans, including those who became fans after “Unplugged”, to easily watch this excellent video, we have officially released it. So we’re going to release it instead. As is often the case with official works, it has been edited compactly and with impact, so this video features four of Clapton’s lead numbers performed at the actual concert and two female singers who served as backing vocals. In addition to two songs being cut, the order of Layla, which was played at the end of the regular set, and Forever Man, which was played at the encore, was switched. In other words, it is not a complete recording of the concert, but the quality of this video remains unchanged, and the official video “Live ’85” was converted to DVD directly from the Japanese laser disc, and was shot on 35mm film. It is said that the video has an analog-like texture unique to this era, and the sound mix is recorded in a loud manner, so there is no doubt that you will be satisfied with the highest image and sound quality. Now, let’s take a look at the timing of this recorded concert in Clapton’s career, and take a look at the topics before and after this concert in chronological order. ≪March-April 1984: Recorded the album “BEHIND THE SUN”≫ ・June-July 1984: Participated in the “Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking” European & North American tour with Roger Waters ≪Autumn 1984: Additional recording of the album “BEHIND THE SUN”≫ ・November-December 1984: Oceania & Hong Kong tour ・February 1985: Tour rehearsal at Brixton Academy, UK ・February 27-15, 1985: UK & Scandinavian tour ≪March 1, 1985: Album “BEHIND THE SUN” released≫ ・April 9, 1985 – May 3, 1985: United States tour first leg ←★Here★ ・May 8, 1985: American music Live show Late Night With David Letterman appearance ・June 21st to July 27th, 1985: US tour, second leg ・October 5th to October 11th, 1985: 6th Japan tour ・October 1985 December 14th to November 6th: Short-term European tour after visiting Alaska and London December 3rd to 23rd, 1985: Temporarily off, but during this time Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Sting, Gary Brooker, Dyer・Jumped into the concert of The Straits and others and stood on stage. Recording of the album “BEHIND THE SUN” was completed in the spring of 1984, but Warner Brothers pointed out its low quality and ordered additional recording, and it was a complete failure. It was an album that was completed at the end of the year. Clapton himself was satisfied with the new work and finally completed it. You could say we spent a year promoting this album. It was a work of great confidence. In addition to covering all of Europe, he has visited North America twice. Moreover, by splitting the legs, the set list also changed. Having already brought out the full potential of their backing band on their European tour in early spring, they approached the first leg of their US tour with confidence. This day, which was the final stage, was packed with solid performances. As for Clapton, he must have been enthusiastic about this tour as a place to convey the results of his new songs to his fans. After playing two sharp slide numbers that served as business cards, Clapton casually decided to play the second part of I Shot The Sheriff, which Clapton professes to be a number that predicts the mood of the day even today. A new original blues song, Same Old Blues, will be performed. Clapton’s look on this day was a stylish beige suit dressed down with a navy T-shirt. The guitar I used was Blacky. The play here is amazing! I guess this is what you mean by knocking it down. Just like the lyrics that express the loneliness and pain of being on tour, here you will find a stormy play that will burst your sad heart. I can definitely say that this was the best play of the day. This is a must-see scene for fans. Blues Power performs a thrilling solo, and he also performs elegant solos on the confident numbers Tangled In Love and She’s Waiting from his new work. Although the popular numbers Wonderful Tonight and Lay Down Sally from the album “SLOWHAND” cooled down the stage, Badge and Let It Rain heated things up, and Cocaine knocked the audience out with their furious play. I can only say that the play from this point on towards the end is amazing. The hit single Forever Man from the new album is also very cool. And a grand finale with Layla. It is a wonderful stage that shows how Clapton was fulfilling both physically and mentally at this time, and how he wanted to ask the world about his confident work “BEHIND THE SUN”. The “Varilight” system that was used at the time, which uses computer programming to change the color and direction according to the progress of the song, also made the stage look gorgeous and sparkling. It’s a shame that it was never made into a DVD, but now it’s finally here in a permanent preservation version. This Clapton is cool! And good at it! This is a masterpiece not only for Clapton fans but also for those who consider themselves rock fans.
