They made a spectacular debut in 1978 with the song “Sad Sultan,” and the following year, in 1979, they toured the United States for the first time. The first complete recording of the Old Wardorf performance in San Francisco on March 31st with the soundboard sound source from the broadcast master. Up until now, there were only 11 songs among the live recordings that had been distributed, but this time, an unaired original master was discovered, making it a complete recording of 13 songs. And among the set list, which was dominated by early numbers from their debut album, “Lady Writer” and “Where Do You Think Your Goin'” from their unreleased second album were included. The combination of Mark Knopfler’s vocals reminiscent of Dylan, guitar play that made full use of unique finger picking, and simple performance is exquisite, and here is a record of a fresh early live performance that attracted attention at the time. Furthermore, Disc:2 includes the April 19th Chester Quantways Club performance from the previous year’s 1978 UK tour, also from the sound board sound source.
