Description
An extremely special, superb live album that is unique in all of DIO’s history. This is a full stereo soundboard recording of “MAGICA Story”, which is said to have been Ronnie James Dio’s last ambition. This is the last thing Ronnie wanted after leaving behind numerous masterpieces and performances. It was the completion of the trilogy story “MAGICA”. Even in his hospital bed, he passionately talked about his ideas and ambitions, and it was believed that he would definitely accomplish them. However, in the end, the first release, “MAGICA”, and the second preview single, “Electra”, gave up. Ronnie passed away without completing the story. “MAGICA” was special even on stage. As it seems to be a concept work, almost all the songs (only “Turn to Stone” was omitted) were performed in the same order as the album. Looking back on Ronnie’s life, the only live performances that could be said to be reproductions of the album were “HOLY DIVER” and “MAGICA”. This work is the only stereo soundboard recording that records such “MAGICA reproduction” in its entirety. A new deluxe edition of “MAGICA” will also be released, and it will also include (for some reason) the songs that were cut. It is truly a live album that is the “stage version of MAGICA story”. This work was recorded at “Hollywood Performance on March 29, 2000”. Speaking of “MAGICA TOUR”, it is memorable because the Japan performance was realized. Here, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule at that time. 2000《MAGICA” released on March 21st》・March 21st-April 29th: North America #1 (29 performances) ←★Coco★・May 3rd-June 17th: Europe #1 (33rd performance) June 22-26: Japan (4 performances) November 16-December 6: North America #2 (21 performances) March 30-April 6, 2001: South America (6 performances) )・April 26th – May 21st: Europe #2 (20 performances) This is DIO in 2000/2001. The tour starts on the day of the album’s release. The Hollywood performance of this work was the 7th concert of such early “North America #1”. The quality of this work is truly superb. I thought that the rough feel that was clearly connected directly to the mix table was not as polished as the official live version… but when I thought about it, DIO was often rough even on the official version. The cheers are far away and you cannot expect the presence of the venue, but that is why the synchronized feeling that the performance sound and singing voice rise to the brain is tremendous, and in a sense it is a super direct sound board that can be said to be better than the official one. What is depicted with that sound is the one and only “MAGICA show”. The point is to reproduce “MAGICA”, but other songs are actually quite rare. Let’s organize the contents here. Before the reproduction part (DISC 1: 6 songs)・HOLY DIVER: Invisible/Gypsy/Stand Up And Shout・THE LAST IN LINE: One Night In The City・DREAM EVIL: Sunset Superman/All The Fools Sailed Away Reproduction part (DISC 2)・MAGICA: Discovery/Magica Theme/Lord Of The Last Day/Fever Dreams/Feed My Head/Eriel/Challis/As Long As It’s Not About Love/Losing My Insanity/Otherworld/Magica Reprise Encore (DISC 2)・HOLY DIVER: Holy Diver… and it looks like this. The “MAGICA” reproduction part is placed in the second half, and the beginning is in the normal style. However, what’s inside is amazing. “DREAM EVIL” number, which was revived for the first time in 12 years because of Craig’s return, and “One Night In The City”, which was not played in 16 years, jumped out, and “Invisible” and “Gypsy”, which were not played even at the time of their debut, from “HOLY DIVER” came out. ” is selected. When I think of DIO, I always imagine a similar setlist, but it’s outrageous. Even if it is not a reproduction of “MAGICA”, it is a parade of special masterpieces. And the “MAGICA” reproduction part. Although it can’t be helped that “Turn to Stone” was not played, you can also enjoy “Feed My Head” and “As Long As It’s Not About Love” which were cut in this deluxe edition. The album itself received mixed reviews, but it’s a special experience to be immersed in the mood created by the live stage performance, and Ronnie’s singing voice is refreshing as he tells the story with all his heart. Craig’s guitar also shines. I don’t know if he’s really motivated or not at the moment because he’s always playing with the Buddha in his head, but on this tour it’s definitely the former. Even when Ronnie passed away, he said, “The greatest achievement in my career was to get Ronnie back on track with MAGICA,” and this work is the scene of that. You can enjoy unusually sharp and sharp phrases with the direct sound board. Ronnie James Dio was also a storyteller of the fantasy world. This is a superb soundboard album where you can fully enjoy the “MAGICA story” that he has staked his life on with live performance. Even the official deluxe edition was destroyed (really, why would Wendy do such a thing…?) Not only can you enjoy the story in its entirety, but you can also enjoy extremely rare songs in this 2-disc set.
