Description

It’s been 45 years since their debut with the single “Mongoloid,” and next year will be the 50th anniversary of DEVO’s formation. Here is a superb set that allows you to fully experience their latest stage. This work contains two stages of one event. This is a two-disc set with a superb recording of the “May 14, 2022 Pasadena performance” on DISC 1 and a spectacular video of the following day, “May 15,” on DISC 2. We don’t have many opportunities to introduce DEVO in our store, so let’s start by taking a broader look at their recent situation. September 19-26, 2021: North America #1 (3 shows) November 5th + 6th: Cleveland (2 shows) April 8, 2022: Los Angeles show May 12-18: North America #2 (4 shows) ←★Here★ September 16th: Cleveland show March 3, 2023: Los Angeles show This is the schedule for 2021 and after that that has been announced so far. At the time of “North America #1”, it was the first stage in two years, but even after that, there was not enough density to call it a tour, and it was a sporadic live show. In the midst of all this, the Pasadena performance of this work was the second and third concerts of “North America #2”. This show was not a solo performance by DEVO, but an appearance at the newly launched “CRUEL WORLD FESTIVAL”. This is a new wave/post-punk festival that also features Morrissey, BAUHAUS, PiL, BLONDIE, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, etc. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and finally came to fruition this year. This work, which vacuum-packs such a scene, has the best live album and video. First, the live album version (May 14th), which is an outdoor venue with no walls or ceilings to reflect sound, jumps directly into the core with zero echoes, and it is amazing to go “like a sound board”. Of course, it is not as simple as being the best outdoors, and if you are far away from the PA, it will be sparse, and if you pick up the wind sound, it will be unbearable. However, there is no worry about that with this work. There is not even a slight sound fluctuation, let alone wind sound. The sound of the video version (May 15th) that replaced it is also superb. Although the sound is more audience-like than the first day (DISC 1) due to the priority of the angle, it is still very thick and direct (you can see that the trees on site did not move at all and there was no wind at all). And even more than that is the view. It is captured with one camera from the back of the venue facing the stage, which is a wonderful view. Although the audience spreads out in front, the line of sight is so high that it passes far above their heads, and the audience looks directly at the stage without being affected at all whether they raise their arms or jump. Moreover, thanks to the field of view that fits all the way to the giant screen, you can enjoy the video production that has been scrupulously scrupulous without missing anything. Despite being a single camera, it is as diverse as a multi-camera professional shot, and you can also enjoy the experience that only a single camera can provide. It is also a video that embodies one ideal form of an audience shot. Such a superb live album / spectacular video depicts two performances that are two parts in which the classic songs of the past are spun. Both sets are the same, so let’s organize them together here. First half: Psychology of Desire: Girl U Want/Whip It, Oh No! It’s Devo: Peek-A-Boo/That’s Good, Others: Going Under/Don’t Shoot (I’m A Man), second half: Decadent Aesthetics: (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction/Uncontrollable Urge/Mongoloid/Jocko Homo, Future of Survival Studies: Secret Agent Man/Smart Patrol-Mr. DNA… and so on. The show starts with “Don’t Shoot (I’m A Man),” but the rest are all golden repertoire from 1979 to 1982. The division of roles is clear, with the first half being selected from three works from the early 1980s, and the second half, after a costume change, is a concentrated and reduced version of “Decadent Aesthetics” and “Future of Survival Studies.” DISC 1 is a superb live album that ideally combines the PA and recording equipment of 2022 and the taste of the outdoors, while DISC 2 is a one-camera shot with the on-site screen on your side. This is a superb two-disc set that allows you to fully experience the latest stage in two performances with the highest quality of audience records. This is DEVO in 2022. A two-disc audience set with the best recording of the “May 14, 2022 Pasadena performance” on DISC 1 and the spectacular footage of the following day, “May 15th,” on DISC 2. The live album version (DISC 1) is a direct hit with the core of zero echoes unique to outdoor venues, and it is amazing to go “like a sound board.” The video version (DISC 2) also has a superb angle with zero obstructions, and the huge screen with a series of elaborate video productions is perfect. Except for the opening “Don’t Shoot (I’m A Man)”, you can experience the greatest hits of the first five classics in two full performances.
