On April 28th, the show at Wembley Arena in London was recorded in full with the best audience recordings of all three bands, featuring a gorgeous lineup of DEEP PURPLE, STYX, and THIN LIZZY in the UK. This is a must-have 4-disc set for fans that uses the original DAT masters directly, which are not available even among traders. Each band reproduces a number of famous songs with a stable performance like a veteran. THIN LIZZY, led by John Sykes, eliminates ballads in their 40-minute time slot and livens up the venue with a groove number. Styx’s 60-minute stage is documented with realistic sound, intoxicating the audience with their colorful and dramatic sound. The Beatles cover I Am The Walrus, followed by Lawrence Gowan’s piano solo with a classical motif, is also a fun listen. Deep Purple’s final set lasted just over an hour and a half, and the set did not include keyboard solos or Perfect Strangers, but they did play The Battle Rages On in the middle, and Morse’s (light) solo in the song is one of the highlights. I think it was Don’s idea to play the theme from A Clock Work Orange in the intro to When A Blind Man Cries, and it’s a great arrangement.
