Deep Purple Deep Purple/Germany 1987

During the 1987 Euro tour to promote the release of their second reunion album, “HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT,” the band performed at the annual “Monsters of Rock” event in Germany on August 29th and 30th. This is a complete recording of the band’s performance, with a good audience sound that makes it hard to believe it was held outdoors at the time. Bon Jovi was the headliner at the Monsters of Rock event in the UK that year, but Purple, who are overwhelmingly popular in Germany, were the final act on both days, and both bands gave a spirited and top-notch performance. Also, during the previous US tour, Richie broke his finger while catching a guitar thrown into the air, and the tour was interrupted, and Richie was in a good mood, and Gillan was also in a good voice, and they performed well on both days, and Richie’s flowing fingering in “Dead Or Alive” and his playing that seems to show his complete recovery from injury, as well as “Hard Lovin` Woman”, “Bad Attitude”, and “Strange Kind Of Woman” featuring “Jesus Christ Superstar”, which can be said to be a set unique to this tour, are worth listening to. In addition, Ian Paice’s sharp drumming explodes in “Space Truckin`”, and “Black Night” starts in response to the enthusiastic audience, and Richie’s backing play shines at the key points of “Smoke On The Water”.
