Description
Gilmore’s “ABOUT FACE TOUR” is said to be a hidden gem that will make FLOYD collectors weep. The original master of the prestigious Kinney, where you can experience the whole picture, is newly discovered. [Confrontation recording that is sister to Roger version] What was recorded in this work was “June 22, 1984: Universal City Performance”. This is the best audience recording. Currently, Roger Waters’ live album “EARLS COURT 1984 1ST NIGHT (Sigma 236)” is very popular at our store, and this work is its sister edition. Not only is it the first solo tour in 1984, but this day is the day after the Roger edition, and it is also an original recording by the prestigious Kinney. Moreover, this recording was intended to be a sister work from the beginning. In fact, only two songs of this recording were ever released, and they were included on the classic album “MONEY” from the analog era. This LP is a combination of the Roger recording that became the basis of “EARLS COURT 1984 1ST NIGHT” and the Gilmore recording that became the basis of this work. The subtitle was “Waters Vs Gilmour,” and in order to record the first solo showdown, the prestigious group challenged (almost) simultaneous recording in Britain and the United States. How direct was the confrontation back then? Let’s combine the tour dates of the two people and check the position of the show.・DG: March 31st – May 1st: Europe (22 performances) ・DG: May 9th – June 15th: North America (30 performances) ・DG&RW: June 16th – July 6th: ( DG North America 13 shows/RW Europe 9 shows) ←★Coco★・DG: July 8th-16th: North America (7 shows)・RW: July 17th-31st: North America (10 shows) *Note: DG” is Gilmore’s “ABOUT FACE TOUR” and “RW” is Roger’s “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR” schedule. This is the overall picture of the two’s first solo tour. Gilmore, who released “ABOUT FACE” a little earlier, will begin a tour in early spring. The main event was a North American tour in early summer. Although it is unclear how consciously Roger started a European tour to coincide with Gilmour’s North American tour, the two tours ran simultaneously across the ocean for about three weeks. The Universal City performance of this work was the 5th concert (by the way, Roger’s 4th performance) out of 13 performances over 3 weeks. [Definitive album that conveys the entire view of “ABOUT FACE TOUR”] This work, which records such a show, also has the magical sound of the prestigious Kinney that will wake you up. In the opening song, “Until We Sleep,” there is a rumbling contact sound that makes me feel a little uneasy for a moment (Is that why they didn’t make it into a full LP?), but it’s stable after about 3 sounds of about 1 second each. What spreads out from there is a beautiful and clear sound, just like the previous Kinney collections, and a sound that is by far the best. The enthusiasm at the scene must be a realistic audience recording, but the atmosphere is crystal clear and you can hardly feel the distance from the core that penetrates through the middle. The bass, which tends to be a weak point in guest recordings, is also clear, and if the attack sound of the bass is sharp, the subsequent rumble and vibe are clear. The keyboard is also showered with glitter. And above all, the essential vocals and guitar. The singing voice can be clearly understood down to the last word in the lyrics, and the guitar has a stability that will never waver even if you play it a lot, as long as the subtle nuances of cutting are clear. It jumps into your ears while remaining so detailed that you can even see the height of the chalking. It’s a clear and distinct sound that is so clear and clear that you might think, “If there was a little more hall sound, it would have been more lustrous” on the saxophone etc. Such a sound depicts a panoramic view of “ABOUT FACE TOUR”, which has not been able to be heard in full until now. Speaking of this tour, there is also an official video (you can enjoy it at our store’s “IN CONCERT 1984”) and an FM broadcast of the Allentown performance, but both are (fairly) incomplete. Here, let’s organize the set while comparing it with the official video. ●PINK FLOYD (3 songs)・Madness: Money (★)・The Wall: Run Like Hell/Comfortably Numb ●Solo (12 songs)・DAVID GILMOUR: Mihalis (★)/Short And Sweet・ABOUT FACE: Until We Sleep / All Lovers Are Deranged / Love On The Air (★) / Cruise (★) / Out Of The Blue / Let’s Get Metaphysical (★) / You Know I’m Right (★) / Blue Light / Murder / Near The End ( ★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on IN CONCERT 1984. …and it looks like this. A total of 15 songs are played in this work, but about half of them, 7 songs, are numbers that cannot be heard in “IN CONCERT 1984”. And, of course, the core of this is “ABOUT FACE”. Unlike Roger, it is not a concept album, so the order of the songs is different, but all 10 songs are played on a large scale. I mentioned earlier the FM broadcast of the Allentown performance, but “Mihalis”, “Cruise”, “Let’s Get Metaphysical”, and “Near The End” are repertoires that cannot be heard there. And the performance that spells out the set is wonderful. While Roger tries to reconstruct the story and the world with his mind, Gilmore just focuses on the heartfelt melodies and the beats that move the body. Her singing voice is warm and full of emotion, the guitar is dynamically carved, and she cries heartlessly. It makes me realize once again that “ABOUT FACE” is packed with such good songs and melodies. Although it was a huge success that surpassed Roger’s solo in the later “Utsu” and “Versus”, it was a full show that proved that it was not the power of only the gold signboard. “ABOUT FACE TOUR” has been said to be an unexplored region, as there are few high-quality records other than official videos or FM broadcasts. It is a masterpiece of a live album where you can fully experience the panoramic view with the prestigious Kinney’s crystal sound. Moreover, if you combine it with Roger’s “EARLS COURT 1984 1ST NIGHT”, you can even enjoy the solo showdown between the two. This is also a luxurious pleasure that is only allowed to sound source enthusiasts. Roger is “thoughtful” and Gilmore is “feeling.” You can fully experience its distinct personality with Kinney’s clear sound. There is no doubt that this work alone is a masterpiece of the outstanding “ABOUT FACE TOUR”, but there is no way to miss this opportunity that finally came around 35 years after the scene Live at Universal Amphitheater, Universal City, CA, USA 22nd June 1984 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) DISC 1(70:33) 1.
