Description

Nippon Budokan is the venue where Bowie held the most performances in Japan during his lifetime. Introducing a superb live album that allows you to experience the historic night when you stood for the first time in Japan’s sacred place. Bowie’s first Budokan performance was on December 11, 1978. It was their second performance in Japan, the first time in five years. Normally, we would start with the dates of his visit to Japan in 1978, but this time we will change things up a bit and look back at Bowie’s Nippon Budokan history. 1978 (1 performance), December 11th: Nippon Budokan ←★This work★ 1983 (4 performances), October 20th: Nippon Budokan, October 21st “MOONLIGHT SHADOW (part of)”, October 22nd “THIRD NIGHT AT BUDOKAN” ・October 24th “DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1983 FINAL NIGHT” 1996 (2 performances) ・June 4th + 5th “OUTSIDE OF BUDOKAN 1996” 2004 (2 performances) ・March 8th “BUDOKAN 2004 1ST NIGHT”/March 9th “BUDOKAN 2004 2ND NIGHT” This is a total of 9 performances of “Bowie at Nippon Budokan”. He toured Japan six times during his lifetime, and only performed at Nippon Budokan in 1973 (his first visit to Japan) and 1990 (Tokyo Dome only). It was the 1st place venue, with a large margin behind the 2nd place Tokyo and Osaka Welfare Pension Hall (both held 3 times). Regardless of the number of performances, it is one of Japan’s most iconic venues, and our store has an archive of many masterpieces. You can experience it with a live album except for the first day of 1983. In any case, what is included in this work is the first visit to such Nippon Budokan. He has long been known for his great audience recordings, and his masterpieces such as “BEAUTY”, new masterpieces “BUDOKAN 1978”, and “LIVE AT BUDOKAN 1978″ have gained popularity. This work is also an audience album, but it is different from those that have already been released. It was produced by an overseas enthusiast, and is a special version with a matrix of three types of audience recordings. The core of the three sauces is our traditional master “BEAUTY” (incidentally, you can now enjoy it as part of “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST”). It seems that the other two types are synchronized there. In fact, the sound makes you feel that it was worth the time and effort. Although it is not possible to make a detailed analysis of the two types other than “BEAUTY” because it is not confirmed which sound source they are, there is no doubt that the sounds that actually flow out are of the highest quality. A powerful core pierces the center of the clear air without any sense of distance, yet the sound is glossy and thick enough. The bass is especially amazing. The aggressive attack sound is clear and the feel is extremely glossy. However, the bass is not overpowering, so the line is clear and the sound is not bouncy. The bass issue is just one example, and its vividness can be felt from all the instruments. What is especially surprising is that the details are clear despite the thickness, and because the silence is deep, the contours are vivid and do not conflict with other instruments, creating a splendid three-dimensional ensemble. This can be said to be proof of a highly advanced matrix. Bad works that are simply poorly edited and cause sound lag are out of the question, but even the most skilled editors find it difficult to create a matrix. It is not the case that combining any sound source will improve the sound; if the sound sources are not compatible, it will end up being worse. We carefully identify the individuality of each sauce and make adjustments to highlight the compatibility and compensate for each other’s weaknesses. The secret of the matrix has been successfully achieved. What is depicted in such deluxe sound is the only Budokan performance that was realized during the Berlin era. Speaking of coming to Japan in 1978, NHK Hall’s TV broadcast pro shots are also famous, so let’s organize the sets while comparing them. Glam Era (8 songs) Ziggy Stardust: Five Years/Soul Love/Star/Hang On to Yourself/Ziggy Stardust/Suffragette City Aladdin Sane: The Jean Genie (★) American Era (5 songs) Diamond Dog : Rebel Rebel (★)・Young Americans: Fame (★)・Station to Station: Station to Station/Stay (★)/TVC 15 Berlin Era (10 songs)・Low: Warszawa/What in the World (★) / Be My Wife (★) / Breaking Glass (★) / Art Decade (★) / Heroic Dream Talker: “Heroes” / Blackout (★) / Sense of Doubt (★) / Beauty and the Beast / Others: Alabama Song (★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard in the pro shot of the NHK Hall performance the next day (November 12th). …and it looks like this. The famous TV pro shot was a 60-minute digest according to the broadcast time frame, but this work is a complete full show. Each source used is a full-scale long recording, and the three types of matrices allow seamless complete recording without any gaps. I will omit the details because it is a famous show that has already been released, but it feels different with Matrix’s gorgeous sound. Although it is not as good as a single audience recording in terms of the reality of being on the actual site, such as directivity, the value of this work is tremendous in the sense of “enjoying a historical show with good sound”. The best audience recording of “December 11, 1978: Nippon Budokan”. This is a matrix master produced by an overseas enthusiast, and is a work that synchronizes two other recordings, centering on the masterpiece “BEAUTY” on the Masterport label. A powerful core pierces the center of the clear air without any sense of distance, yet the sound is glossy and thick enough. We carefully identify the individuality of each sauce and make adjustments to highlight the compatibility and compensate for each other’s weaknesses. This is a masterpiece live album by maniacs who have masterfully achieved the secret of Matrix. Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 11th December 1978 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc 1 (48:06) 1. Warszawa 2. Heroes 3.
