Description
The second live performance of all songs from the albums “LOW” and “HEATHEN” is now available. The other day, I introduced these two completely reproduced live performances “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK”, but that was a warm-up gig for “HEATHEN TOUR 2002”. On the other hand, this is an audience album that contains the “next” live tour, the first day of the tour “June 29, 2002 London Performance”. This day was also “MELTDOWN FESTIVAL 2002”, which was sponsored by Bowie himself, and following the warm-up in New York, he will now perform two albums in full in his homeland. The sound of this work, which contains such a commemorative live, is wonderful, approaching “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK”. The clarity and realism of the scene are almost the same. The musical sound that reaches you straight has a thick core and sharp edges, and each instrument’s sound is unique, such as the guitar with vivid picking nuances, the synth sound that you can almost feel the harmonic structure, and Bowie’s direct singing voice. beautiful. The drums are especially amazing. Although there is a slight sense of distance, the atmosphere of the space is so powerful that it gives a sense of explosion. Moreover, even with such force, there is no fear and it is recorded neatly. “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK” also had a clear sound that blew away even the rarity value of the rare live, but this home performance is as great as it is. The show, which is filled with such high quality sound, is composed of the album “LOW” part → “HEATHEN” part → representative song encore, just like “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK”. However, the content is slightly different. Let’s introduce each part. ●“LOW” complete performance part “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK” opened with Bowie’s declaration, “I’m going to play two albums. First, it’s LOW.” The performance began with the tune of “Weeping Wall.” It seems that the audience on the day did not know that they would play all the songs of “LOW”, but there is no doubt that this alone will be a special show. The enthusiasm of the audience that bursts with that premonition is realistically recorded. Just as the anticipation was building up, the majestic intro of “Warszawa” sounded and the venue erupted into excitement! Of course, “Weeping Wall” and “Warszawa” are songs from the second half of the album “LOW,” so even when they start, they are not complete reproductions. However, this dramatic opening definitely fits the mood of the live performance. Here, Bowie’s greeting of “I’ll do ‘LOW'” enters, and the long-awaited “Speed Of Life” begins. After that, it goes almost as per the album, but “Art Decade” is inserted between “Sound And Vision” and “Always Crashing In The Same Car”. Looking back at the whole thing, the B-side of the album “LOW” was dismantled and scattered at the beginning, middle, and end of the A-side songs. This flow is actually quite natural when you listen to it. Although the album version is more valuable as a commemoration, it is more complete as a live work, and the new charm of the masterpiece “LOW”, which is freed from the analog AB side framework, is expanded. By the way, even after New York and London, all songs of “LOW” were performed at “July 12, 2002 Cologne (Germany)”, “July 18, 2002 Montreux (Switzerland)”, “September 22, 2002 Berlin (Germany)” The performance was realized, and the “LOW” part was placed in the middle of the live performance and in the encore. The order of the songs followed this work, but the opening was “Warszawa”, perhaps because it was not the beginning of the show. “Weeping Wall” had returned to the previous position of “Subterraneans”. ●“HEATHEN” Completely Reproduced Part & Encore After the masterpiece “LOW”, all songs of the new “HEATHEN” at that time were played. This is a complete reproduction of the song order as per the album. This is an extremely valuable record that has only been reproduced twice: “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK” and this work. The New York performance was a limited live for homepage members only, and this is “MELTDOWN FESTIVAL 2002” sponsored by Bowie. The challenge of playing all the newly released new songs at once was possible because it was a special concert filled with deep trust and respect for Bowie. Supported by a warm audience in this work, you can enjoy Bowie’s singing voice spreading his wings to his heart’s content in the world of “HEATHEN”, which exudes a gentle yet profound emotion. The roar of applause at the end of “Heathen (The Rays)” attests to the fact that the audience’s enthusiasm for a historic challenge is not just a social commentary. And finally, a festive encore. They started off with “White Light, White Heat”, which they haven’t heard in a long time, with THE DANDY WARHOLS as a guest, and then they put together “Fame”, “Ziggy Stardust”, “Hallo Spaceboy”, and “I’m Afraid Of Americans” all at once. We will show off a concentrated large-scale behavior that will thank the audience who supported Bowie’s challenge. The audience gets excited and sings along. In particular, the chorus of “Ziggy Stardust”, which was not performed in New York, was so moving that it gave me chills. The film concludes with a grand finale. Following “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK”, which faithfully reproduces the album “LOW” down to the song order, this work brings out a new charm of the masterpiece as a show. Both are twin works that recorded only two shows in history, in which two albums were played in their entirety. This is a masterpiece of “21st Century Bowie” that all Bowie fans should listen to, including those who were moved by “HEATHEN IN NEW YORK” and those who learned of the existence of this rare show for the first time.
