Description

The original cassette reprint series of Kinney recordings has been very popular every time. The latest is a completely unreleased tape of David Bowie. This work is an audience album that includes the “October 31, 1983 Kyoto performance” of “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR 1983”, which is the third performance in Japan. If this recording is the first appearance, it is also the first time that the recording of this day has been made into a CD. First, let’s take a look at the dates of the 1983 Japan tour. ・October 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 24th: Nippon Budokan ・October 25th: Yokohama Stadium ・October 26th and 27th: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium ・October 29th: Nagoya City International Exhibition Center October 30th: Osaka Expo Commemorative Stadium / October 31st: Kyoto Prefectural Gymnasium [This work] The third Japan tour has a busy schedule of 10 performances in 12 days. Speaking of Bowie in 1983, he quickly became a pop star with the lead role in the movie “Merry Christmas” and the huge hit of “LET’S DANCE.” It was a large-scale tour that reflected their explosively expanding popularity. Of course, the concerts were a huge success everywhere. This work is a record of the highly successful Japanese tour Chiakiraku. The most interesting sound is, as expected, a Kinney recording. It is a neat recording of the so-called “like a sound board” type, and the musical tones have a lot of direct feeling. The danceable and sharply reborn Bowie sound is vividly poured into your ears. On top of that, the atmosphere of the venue was very 80’s, which was delicious. This tour is a live performance in various places where yellow voices fly, but this work also contains the thickness and heat of popularity that has spread widely to the general public, but does not disturb the musical sound at all. Although the recording position has not been transmitted, even though there is enthusiasm that spreads to every corner of the venue, the musical sound is vivid like a laser beam. It’s as if it was adjusted later with a multi-channel mix, with an exquisite balance that ideally spreads the sense of the times, enthusiasm, performance, and singing voice. Moreover, the sound does not waver in the slightest from the beginning (immediately after the start, there is a warp due to a pause for a few seconds, but it is left as is in order to reproduce all the sounds contained in the tape). And that “Intro” is the highlight of the song. The show opens with a Japanese MC by guitarist Carlos Alomar. The MC said, “Good evening! This is the last performance of the SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR in Japan in 1983. Hello everyone! This is DAVID BOWIE & HIS BAND! 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 3!!’ A cheerful story with some dialect. “1983” is also completely translated into Japanese as “Senkyu Hyaku Hachiju Sannen”. During this tour, he performed as a Japanese MC in various places, and his fluency improved with each passing day, and this performance in Kyoto was his final performance. Even after the performance begins, Bowie himself speaks in Japanese between songs, saying, “Ookini, okini, good evening.” Especially the band introduction is a must-listen. “It was a really fun night thanks to all of you. The performance was a real call. Thank you so much everyone. Thank you very much. This is a very, very old song. “Young Americans.” “We’re a band,” he said carefully, making sure to confirm every word. Since you can listen to such a scene with clear sound just like a sound board, that alone is a special record. Of course, “1983 Bowie” clearly emerges not only in the MC but also in the performance. It was a time when there was a strong feeling of being reborn, but surprisingly there were only four new songs from “LET’S DANCE”: “Let’s Dance,” “Cat People (Putting Out Fire),” “China Girl,” and “Modern Love.” In fact, it’s even more interesting to listen to how the past repertoire has changed, and even the soulful “Heroes” is sharp and danceable. With such a complete ensemble, you can fully enjoy the four encore songs “Star”, “Stay”, “The Jean Genie” and “Modern Love” that are not included in the official video “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT”. “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR 1983” was the peak of Bowie’s career, commercial and popularity, but had few recordings. This is a live album that spreads that precious concert with beautiful Kinney sound. To be honest, many bands/musicians keep records of their performances in Japan, but when you actually listen to them, it’s not uncommon to find out what’s different about their performances overseas. However, this work has a strong “live in Japan” feel, including an MC who speaks in Japanese and cheers that could only be found in Japan in the 1980s. This is a 100% new excavated sound source where you can meet Bowie from 33 years ago, when he was controversial but also certainly brilliant. A page of memories of “Bowie and Japan” that no one has ever heard. Furitsu Taiikukan, Kyoto, Japan 31st October 1983 PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1 (56:38) 1. Intro 2.
