Description
The performance on 28 September 2008 in Dartford was recorded using the original DAT master, which is not available even among traders. With the superb sound with outstanding realism, you can fully enjoy the superb ensemble that only this trio can express. Holdsworth has been performing live quite aggressively, visiting Japan in January last year, performing with Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin at the end of November, touring Germany in April, the US in May, the UK in September and October, another US tour in November, and touring Japan with Johnson & Wackerman in February this year, etc. This recording shows the extraordinary fulfillment of Holdsworth’s live activities. Recently, the Holdsworth Band has been trying out various rhythm section combinations, such as Jimmy Johnson + Gary Husband, Jimmy Johnson + Chad Wackerman, and Ernest Tibbs + Chad Wackerman, and each has their own unique characteristics, creating a unique groove that is full of originality. Unfortunately, there are not many changes in the set list, but Holdsworth’s intention to compete on the content of the performance has been perfectly fulfilled, and the Dartford performance will be a wonderful ensemble. The rhythmic combination of Ernest Tibbs, a black bassist from the West Coast who has recently participated in live performances with David Garfield and Phil Upchurch, and the familiar Wackerman, who have fundamentally different ways of capturing time, creates a wonderful contrast (Tibbs basically rides on six-note bounces, Wackerman is just right, and more recently, as can be seen in fill-ins, heavier grooves with emphasis on the back of the beat), and the intertwining with Holdsworth is simply exquisite, and the ultimate groove that only this trio can play will make even non-fans groan! Highlights include Devil Take The Hindmost, which shows off Holdsworth’s good form that day, and Letters Of Marque, where the bassless part in Devil ~ drops by 10 times, and the transcendent guitar solo in the middle of Letters ~ that is about to explode are definitely must-listens! ! What’s even better this time is that a public rehearsal has also been recorded, with sound checks of the members that you don’t normally get to experience, a relaxed jam with one chord, and tense improvisations while searching for chords with each other – it’s well worth listening to! It’s no exaggeration to say that the Holdsworth Trio is at its peak right now, and the ultimate item that you can enjoy in luxury with rehearsals has been decided to be released!
