Description

A miraculous appearance of an unreleased audience source of Cream, the legendary band that transformed rock! A monaural audience recording of an unreleased day of the legendary Fillmore West performance in March 1968, when Cream is said to have conquered the United States, has appeared on the Internet! The person who recorded this sound source is the one who uploaded it. It is unclear why he decided to release it now after 55 years, but in any case, it must be a happy topic that can be called a miracle for British rock fans. Moreover, it is wonderful that it was recorded with good sound quality that can be listened to normally, despite the era, and it can be called a miracle. Cream’s second US tour at this time took place over a period of about four months, and the first two shows on the West Coast from February 29th to March 10th were officially recorded live as a highlight of the tour. The live takes of the soundboard recordings were recorded in pieces on Cream’s official albums “WHEELS OF FIRE”, “LIVE CREAM”, “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”, and the Japanese CD “CREAM OF ERIC CLAPTON”, and made the world aware of Cream’s amazing live performances. In the underground, a slightly poor sound quality mono soundboard source from March 10th was leaked, and although it was possible to listen to rare We’re Going Wrong and other takes of Sunshine Of Your Love, Steppin’ Out, and I’m So Glad, it did not reach the level where you could enjoy the unreleased live takes. The take of the March 3rd performance included in this work was not officially recorded, so naturally all the takes are appearing for the first time. Moreover, we have carefully examined the entire album, and as a result, we have corrected the pitch, which was slow and inconsistent depending on the scene, to a normal level, corrected the drop in sound pressure after 5:46 in Spoonful, and further improved the quality by reducing the crackling sound caused by tape deterioration after Tales of Brave Ulysses. Therefore, this is an upgraded version that is much easier to listen to than listening to it online! This album contains extremely valuable sound sources that further support the legend of the legendary trio Cream, and you can rediscover their greatness. A vivid record of their second American tour that achieved US domination! Let’s take a look back at Cream’s activities from 1967 to this tour. January to February 22, 1967: UK club tour including BBC television and radio appearances February 24 to March 8, 1967: Germany, Northern Ireland and Scandinavian tour March 12 to 21, 1967: London club gigs March 25 to April 2, 1967: Appearance in Murray the K’s “Music In The 5th Dimension Show” at the RKO Theatre, New York.・April 14th – May 7th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances ・May 19th – 21st 1967: Germany performances ・May 22nd – August 20th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances (including a spot performance in Paris on June 1st) ・August 22nd – October 15th 1967: 1st American tour ・October 24th – November 6th 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearances <<November 1967, album “DISRAELI Release of “GEARS” >>・10th to 23rd November 1967: Nordic tour・23rd November to 3rd December 1967: UK tour including BBC radio appearance・20th to 23rd December 1967: Spot performances in Chicago and Detroit・5th January to 10th February 1968: UK tour including TV appearance in the Netherlands and spot performances in Nordic countries・23rd February to 18th June 1968: Second American tour ←★Here★ As you can see from this, even though they were a supergroup made up of three guys who had already distinguished themselves as virtuoso instrumentalists in the UK at the time, they toured the UK, Germany and Northern Europe without a break for promotional purposes. It was also the time when they made a foray into America, the world’s largest market and the home of jazz and blues, which was the background of the three of them. The first American tour was mainly in New York and San Francisco, but after making their name in those two cities, they embarked on a long-term tour of the US, including other cities, and this second American tour was the one that virtually conquered the US. The performance of the expanded interpretation of blues at a loud volume, which no one had practiced at the time, the establishment of improvisation that expanded a few minutes of songs in the studio version to more than 10 minutes, and the outstanding technique of the three people that made it possible. This is what transformed the new genre of music called “rock”. The Fillmore performance at the beginning of the second American tour proves this fact. It can be said that this contains a piece of the truth of Cream that further follows up on the official live sound source. We guarantee that you will not regret adding this upgraded version to your collection. Two performances in one day with a different set list This performance was a promotional tour after the release of the new album “DISRAELI GEARS” at the time, but it was a tour with a new set list. And on top of the long tour of four months, this day was a hard schedule with two performances. Considering the number of songs included, it seems to be an incomplete recording, and unfortunately Sunshine of Your Love and Spoonful are missing, but this first-time recording is full of highlights. First of all, N.S.U. from the first show is the longest take ever, at 16:37. In the middle improvisation part, the three members’ syncopation is wonderful, as they perfectly create the difference between the “still” and “moving” grooves. Cream has been said to be an egoistic group that just plays their own instruments the way they want to, without caring about each other’s members during live performances, but when you listen to this take, you can see that despite the complete improvisation, each member is feeling the other’s playing and timing the speed and speed. I think this is proof that Cream is a professional musical group, not just a group of egoists. The next song, Politician, was still unreleased at this point. The recording of “Wheels Of Fire” was carried out between tours, so it seems that it was already completed at this point. Please also note that the ending is different from the one that was played on the farewell tour. Sunshine Of Your Love fades out at 3:52, but you can hear Clapton’s solo in the middle completely. It is as good as the take from the Winterland performance in San Francisco on March 9th of this tour, which was included in the official live album “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”. Also, because of the good sound quality of this solo, you can see that Clapton was playing properly with a “woman tone”. Incidentally, the guitar that Clapton used on this tour was the Gibson SG Standard, which was used for “Angel of Fire”, famous for The Fool’s painting. He probably turned the tone down to zero and played with the rear pickup, as in the guitar lesson in the official DVD “Cream Breakup Concert”. Tales Of Brave Ulysses from the second show is also a wonderful take that is comparable to the take included in “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”. It is one of the proofs that Cream was performing high quality performances every day. Spoonful is also a gem of a take that is no less than the famous take of “WHEELS OF FIRE”. The composition of Clapton’s long solo in the middle is flawless, and there is no dullness at all. It is a regrettable take that is cut at 15:00 when the improvisation part ends and returns to the theme, but you can fully enjoy the charm of this take by this point. An ultra-rare sound source that has seen the light of day after 55 years. It is a valuable sound source comparable to historical ancient ruins excavated while retaining its original form. Please take a time slip to Fillmore West 55 years ago with this upgraded work only available at our store. Remastering memo Fixed the pitch that was basically slow depending on the scene. Fixed the drop in sound pressure after 5:46 in Spoonful. The chirping feeling was intense after Tales of Brave Ulysses, so it was alleviated.
