Description
COVERDALE/PAGE’s “BUDOKAN 1993 2ND NIGHT” was released the other day and was very well received. The first generation sound released by the popular “KRW_CO” was a powerful masterpiece. This is the second release. It is also the first generation album from “KRW_CO”. The greatest thing about this work is the powerful sound, but let’s start with the basics. This work is an audience album from the performance at the National Yoyogi Stadium on December 17, 1993. Our store has archived not only “BUDOKAN 1993 2ND NIGHT” but also many other live albums. Let’s check the dates again here.・December 14th: Nippon Budokan “KNEES AND PRAY” ・December 15th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1993 2ND NIGHT” – 1 day move & off- ・December 17th: National Yoyogi Stadium [This work] ・December 18th: National Yoyogi Stadium – 1 day move & off- ・December 20th: Osaka Castle Hall “PRIDE & JOY” ・December 21st: Osaka Castle Hall ・December 22nd: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium “OVER NOW” This is the only tour of COVERDALE/PAGE, with all 7 performances. It can be roughly divided into 3 sections with off-time in between, and the Yoyogi Olympic performance in this work is the concert in the second section. The sound of this work is intense, unique to the 1st generation. “BUDOKAN 1993 2ND NIGHT” also had a great sound, but the realism and directness of this work are on a slightly different level. Although the cheers of the enthusiastic crowd for the century’s combined project are also absorbed, the sense of closeness of the guitar and vocals is amazing. In particular, the guitar is super vivid, even the slightest touch of picking and the nuances of choking. Furthermore, the rhythm section is intense, and from each drum hit to the buzzing bass, it is extremely detailed. In particular, when you close your eyes, the bass is so detailed that you can see not only the stage, but even the waveform of the deep bass. In fact, the “KRW_CO” master itself had some left-right balance disturbances, but this work was corrected by mastering. In addition, the hall feeling was reduced, and the sound was finished to convey the direct feeling of the musical sound even more vividly. However, the original “ringing” and “detail” are not damaged at all by forced equalization. You may be surprised by the powerful sound when you listen to this work, but this is the charm that the original sound originally had. The concert depicted with that sound is also wonderful. At the Nippon Budokan, the tension of the first live performance drifted, but perhaps they held a reflection meeting on their day off, and in this work, you can hear in detail that they have improved their condition while still retaining a fresh feeling. Even with a single shout or a single riff, there is no inertia or familiarity, but they have become more powerful and feel really good. Coverdale, who is especially in high spirits, is wonderful. He shouts out the long-awaited (?) ZEP number with a pleasant feeling, and even in the MC, he goes “Utatte” and “Mondainai”. He is also in top form, singing “Oyoyogi♪ Oyoyogi♪ Oyoyogiiii♪” on “In My Time Of Dying”. Coverdale is the best at Japan performances. Jimmy Page was able to do it because of Coverdale. Of course, his eternal partner was Robert Plant, and Coverdale may have been a substitute. However, perhaps it was because Coverdale, who innocently respects him with all his might and frolics innocently, was standing next to him that he was able to enjoy the “fantasy of ZEP”. Page’s smile shines through in the bold performance of this work. Coverdale is having a great time, and Page is regaining his senses. The backing band respects these two legends, and the large audience at Yoyogi Olympics loses themselves in the sight before their eyes… All of this is a masterpiece of a live album that revives the real sound of the 1st generation. COVERDALE/PAGE, which only had seven performances. The space of that bubble was filled with such joy. A sure and vivid witness.
